Our (horror) story
As a previous property strata manager and my construction background, I was astonished by the absence of care or respect when I hired a contractor to fix a minor issue in our building. Back in 2019, I was busy with projects in Alberta, and decided to hire a contractor to fix what was a tiny hole in our building balcony. Fast forward a few weeks and the contractor decided on his own without consultation or permission to tear down the building exterior for "further inspection". However, there were no further issues discovered as a result of his actions, and them proceeded to quote us an egregious amount for fixing the building exterior that he had personally removed. Of course, we fired him immediately, costing us around another 60k to repair building. Perhaps that was a bad contractor, and decided to hire another one to fix both the hole and the building exterior. ​

In fear of hiring another bad contractor, I flew myself out to fix the balcony that was destroyed, the exterior which was desecrated, and the initial hole that was created. In total, the cost of hiring two bad contractors cost over 100k dollars, several hours consulting lawyers, headaches over the broken promises and trust with each hire, and my own time, will and energy in fixing the issues present with my own hands.
